Company Overview:

Superior Forge and Steel’s primary product is forged hardened steel rolls for hot and cold rolling of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Work and backup rolls can be furnished up to 1625 mm in diameter with finish weights in excess of 70,000 kilograms. Other products and services available include commercial ingots, specialty forging, heat treatment, and machining. 

Quality assurance, from raw material purchases to final machining, is maintained by rigid SPC and SQC programs coupled with formal training of all personnel. Each step of the manufacturing process is verified to document Superior’s ability to meet our internal standards which are more stringent than typical industry standards. 




Job Purpose:      To effectively provide metallurgical and technical support to all aspects of forged roll manufacturing.  


Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • Providing daily metallurgical and technical support to all company departments actively involved in roll manufacturing.
  • Performing routine metallographic preparation and optical microscopy on forged steel rolls and ingots.
  • Performing routine hands on non-destructive testing such as ultrasonic inspection, hardness testing, and retained austenite analysis.
  • Conduct root cause failure analysis investigations on customer claim rolls and internal failures.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports on completed failure analysis investigations.
  • Conducting corrective and preventive action investigations.
  • Responsible for identifying and executing projects for process improvements.
  • Actively contributing and implementing continuous process improvements.
  • Prepare weld work and order instructions for internal customer requested repairs.
  • Performing frequent process audits to assure adherence to standard procedure and analyze process optimization.

  • Have a 4 year University Degree Program in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science
  • At least 5 years related experience preferred. 
  • Knowledge of metallographic sample preparation, etching and the use of a light optical microscope
  • Attention to detail
  • Computer proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of basic laboratory safety practices
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong mathematical skills
