Company Overview:

Superior Forge and Steel’s primary product is forged hardened steel rolls for hot and cold rolling of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Work and backup rolls can be furnished up to 1625 mm in diameter with finish weights in excess of 70,000 kilograms. Other products and services available include commercial ingots, specialty forging, heat treatment, and machining. 

Quality assurance, from raw material purchases to final machining, is maintained by rigid SPC and SQC programs coupled with formal training of all personnel. Each step of the manufacturing process is verified to document Superior’s ability to meet our internal standards which are more stringent than typical industry standards. 

Pitman/Ladleman

Job Purpose:      To setup and maintain melting equipment and assist in melting operations.

Key responsibilities:

Pitman:

  • Removing used plates and cleaning pouring pits.
  • Cleaning and inspecting plates and molds.
  • Setting up plates, molds and stools.
  • Monitoring supply inventories.

Ladleman:

  • Cleaning and repairing ladles.
  • Inspecting argon plugs.
  • Inspecting top plate and gate.
  • Repairing ladle bottoms.
  • Relining ladles.
  • Assisting in preheat, melting, tapping, degas and pouring operations.

Key accountabilities:

  • Observing company and safety policies, procedures, work instructions and standards.
  • Timely, accurate and neat documentation of daily production.
  • Housekeeping in department work areas and company living areas.
  • Timely reporting of equipment problems and issues.
  • Reporting all deviations from production specifications.
  • Participating in melt furnace relines.
  • Hooking chains for Heat and Scrap yard Crane Operators.
  • Assisting with ingot strips.

Classification:          Hourly (Starting wage $15.50)

                                Benefits after 90 days

Qualifications:         High School Diploma or GED

                                Previous foundry or construction experience a plus, but not required

                                Proficient in the interpretation and utilization of sketches

                                Accuracy

                                Attention to detail

                                Ability to work at heights and in confined areas

                                Must be able to bend, lift and twist 60 to 80 lbs

                                Must be able to pass pre-employment tests

                                                (Physical, drug test and background check)
